Edith M. Parker

 

Edith M. Parker, 98, of Hawkeye, died Sunday, October 27, 2013, at Maple Crest Manor Care Center in Fayette.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday,November 2, 2013, at the United Methodist Church in Hawkeye with Rev. Chris Ebers officiating.  Interment will follow at Hawkeye Cemetery.  Friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, November 1, 2013, at Becker-Milnes Funeral Home in Hawkeye and for one hour preceding services at the church on Saturday.  

Edith Mae, daughter of Walter and Belle Brown Robinson, was born October 19, 1915, at Hawkeye, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at the Methodist Church in Hawkeye. She attended the Hawkeye Public Schools, graduating from Hawkeye High School where she played basketball. Edith attended Upper Iowa University in Fayette where she received her teaching certificate. She taught rural school in Fayette County, substitute taught, and was a teacher’s aide in her later years in the North Fayette Community Schools. On August 17, 1938, she was united in marriage with Clifford “Pete” Parker at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. A lifelong resident of Hawkeye, Edith was a member of the Hawkeye United Methodist Church where she was active in various guilds. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and had served on the Library Board. Edith loved her houseplants, cooking, many types of needlework, reading, and watching basketball.

She is survived by three sons, Dr. Roger (Carolyn) Parker of Cincinnati, Ohio, Don (Carol) Parker of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, and Keith Parker of Hawkeye; one daughter, Sgt. Janet Parker-Helbert of Nathrop, Colorado; eight grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and two brothers, Robert (Elizabeth) Robinson of Creston and Lloyd (Donna) Robinson of Hawkeye.

Edith was preceded in death by her husband, on March 4, 2007, and two sisters, Ruth and Virginia.
